Maths tip and trick - Multiplication by 4

Multiply by 4
2 X 2 = 4
Therefore, we can multiply any number by 4 by doubling in and then again doubling the answer.

Suppose, a X 4 = ?
               2a  => 2(2a)

let it be 35 X 4 = ?
     Doubling 35 = 70
     Again Doubling 70 = 140.

Hence 35 X 4 = 140.

Now try

(a) 42 X 4         
(b) 125 X 4
